Connect. Restore. Heal.

Our mission is to transform grass lawns and outdated landscapes into vibrant, ecologically rich spaces that support community well-being and environmental health.

WHY NATIVES?

WHAT DO NATIVES DO FOR YOU?

Grass lawns have been the “traditional” style for generations. It has established expectations for us as homeowners, driven our concepts of aesthetics, and led us to associate its maintenance with prestige. In the face of climate change and urban sprawl, we need to wrestle with what is most important for our collective futures, and remember how beautiful nature is when we allow her to intertwine with our human world once again.

We are not separate from nature, leaning into our connection brings so many benefits. In Michigan, we are already experiencing hotter summers. Allowing native tree canopies and groundcovers to be present reduces surface temperatures, making neighborhoods noticeably cooler.

Our watersheds are better protected by the deep root systems of native plants which absorb and filter stormwater, reduce runoff, and prevent nutrient loading that degrades Michigan’s lakes and rivers.

Even if bugs are not your jam, they are essential to maintaining food webs – feeding birds, amphibians and beyond – only native plants provide the food and shelter necessary for critical species.

Even if no other reason interests you, green spaces serve you directly by improving mental health, reducing stress, improving air quality, and increasing property value.
